HISTORY

Surrounded by the scenic Santa Monica Mountains, Agoura Hills, California has a rich history dating back centuries. The area was originally inhabited by the Chumash Indian tribe, who thrived on its natural resources and provided fertile land for farming and hunting.

Spanish explorers arrived in the late 17th century and established missions and ranches such as Rancho Las Virgenes, which surrounds the Agoura Hills.

This era of livestock farming laid the foundations for the region’s cultural identity and shaped its character for generations to come. The 20th century saw significant growth and change in Agoura Hills. The construction of the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) in the 1950s improved connectivity and led to residential and commercial expansion. The community grew from its agricultural roots into a suburban enclave that attracted families seeking a tranquil lifestyle amidst the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and canyons.

Today, Agoura Hills is a vibrant community known for its unique blend of history, modernity, and natural beauty. Annual events such as Reyes Adobe Days celebrate the city’s heritage, while scenic hiking trails and cultural attractions continue to attract residents and visitors alike. With its enduring appeal and thriving businesses, Agoura Hills retains the hallmarks of its past while capitalizing on present opportunities.
